Cultivar epithet:  'Purpurea'

Species/hybrid:  Heliconia caribaea

Description:  Erect inflorescence; 5 to 22 distichous bracts, red, upper bracts sometimes with yellow or green distal lips; rachis red; sepals with green stripes and greenish tint on distal third and white below, some with small yellow area at the base; ovary white or cream; pedicel white or cream-yellow. Vegetation musoid, with white waxy coating on most stems, petioles, and lower leaf surfaces. Height 2.1 to 6 m (7 to 20 feet).
